                                        REFLECTION

Group 3:

My group presented on gun laws around the world. My country was Italy where I spoke about their regulations on owning a firearm. Samantha spoke about the gun laws in the United States of America. It gave me a clear insight into what goes on in our country with gun regulations and statistics. After learning about the stats, it was clear that the United States needs more control over firearms because of the amount of violence that takes place. It was very interesting to hear Vladislava talk about gun control in Switzerland. They have an extremely low crime rate. She researched and discovered that there has not been a mass shooting in over 20 years. Switzerland is number 11 on a peaceful country's list. Although 2 million people legally own a gun, there are very few mass shootings. This is because they have strict regulations and extensive background checks. Yadira discussed gun control in Japan. She brought up how there are 127 million people in Japan and in 2018, 9 deaths compared to the United States has close to 40,000. Pistols and rifles are only for law enforcement. This helps control who has one. Japan has strict regulations on who is allowed to own a gun. Group 3 gave many interesting facts about gun control around the world. I learned things that I thought I would never learn.

Group 2:

Group 2 discussed families at the border and the issues they go through coming into the United States as well as building their new life here. Gabriela introduced us to why immigrants leave their home countries. There are several reasons why they do such as lack of job opportunities, violence, education, healthcare, politics, and gender inequality. The United States has a selection of opportunities. Kevin spoke about the requirements for becoming a US citizen. A helpful tip is having family or a connection in the US. Visas are the main way to be able to live in the US. After obtaining a Visa, you can start the process of becoming a citizen of the United States. Families can fall apart when they cross the border as Laura said. Sometimes they have to leave behind loved ones to bring them a better future. Immigrants cross the border by walking, swimming, or floating in the Rio Grande from Mexico. This is extremely dangerous for small children. Nairy spoke about the great number of children at the borders. Over 2,300 children have been separated from their parents. This is because their parents come to the US illegally. This separation can cause trauma to young kids causing them to have developmental delays as well as being put in the foster care system which is not helpful. I have learned that in 2021 there were over 125,000 unaccompanied kids at the border. Learning about this is very sad and things should be done correctly to prevent this from happening. Keisy discussed how countries have different restrictions at their borders with some being stricter than others. She said it depends on their economic factors. Canada has a very open immigration policy.  Overall, this presentation was very informative.

Group 1:

Group 1 talked about covid and how it affects students and their everyday lives. With covid being part of students' lives, there are some benefits such as learning at home and the flexibility that comes with it. Students tend to be more comfortable learning in their homes rather than in a classroom. With this, there are some disadvantages such as lack of human contact, unstructured learning, and technology malfunctions. Students with a lack of human contact with their peers can affect when getting a new job or entering a new school. I experienced some of these things when covid hit. During my entire junior year of high school, I stayed home and did zoom. Once covid slowed down I was able to fully go back for my senior year which was great but a little nerve-racking since I had not seen my peers since sophomore year. Group 1 did an excellent job of explaining what students went through and are currently going through now that covid exists.

Overall, each group did an excellent job on their informative presentation. Everyone knew their topic and it helped me understand it better. Each person spoke clearly and it is obvious that they are becoming more confident in their public speaking. I hope to hear more great presentations in the future.
