Valerie Delgado - Second Presentation Refection.

Hello my name is Valerie Delgado, this refection is about the second presentation that took place in SPC 2608. The second presentation was a very detailed presentation regarding topics that are informative and have different views upon them. Throughout the assignment as a leader I was learning so much new information and had to come up with a well detailed introduction for each presentation.

The first topic that was brought up was Group 3 they spoke about gun control, gun control is a very controversial topic in the United States, there are many different opinions and views on what gun laws should look like. Recently in the USA we have experienced a significant amount of school shooting and citizens are asking for gun control to prevent such a horrific situation. Group 3 spoke about different countries gun laws and their crime rates, and how citizens use their firearms and why they have possession of them. There was interesting gun laws in other locations that, I personally wouldn’t have thought of.

With that being said, I do believe that citizens should have the right to obtain a firearm, with the proper background check (mental health, crime charges, etc) during the purchase. While having a firearm there should be annual background evaluations to ensure the firearm is not in the possession of someone that has been diagnosed after the purchase.

Group 2 followed up after, with the topic immigration. While immigration is a very big issue here in the United States, there are so many laws and regulations that go into consideration while immigrating. This topic was a very touchy and had sentimental feelings since majority of our families have immigrated to give us this life and education that we are currently receiving with many of the struggles that these people face shelters have had to turn people away, and people have been sent back at the boarders. Immigrating is a tough subject due to the fact that these people have to pack up a small bag and leave their lives behind in hopes to start a new and better one here in the USA.

The photo above is an officer providing immigrants with information to the nearest immigration shelter where they can seek medical care if needed and resources such as food and water. People have gotten to the United States malnourished due to the lack of resources during the immigrating travel time. Having group 2 speak on such a touchy topic and being able to enlighten us with new information about immigration was amazing and it was well spoken on.

Lastly, group 1 spoke about COVID-19. There were many issues that rose while COVID-19 was in fact still considered a “new” virus. These issues were nonetheless, mask protection, six feet apart, virtual (zoom) school/work. These were adjustments that needed to be made to protect everyone against the unknown virus. While making all these adjustments to prevent this virus from spreading group one stated “about 91% of students that were enrolled into an institution stopped and went “virtual” to possibly stop the spread”.  Now seeing all the social damage and what is considered normal is very tragic. This pandemic has created social anxiety, lack of human connection/engagement. These adjustments took everyone at shock, causing suicide, drug abuse and mental health issues, and violence rates to arise. Learning about all the harmful situations this pandemic has created is insane to see due to the fact that people are afraid to interact with others so its covered well.

Throughout this project I have learned many new and different things about topics that are often spoken about. Everyone that took part in this class project made it very informative on issues that still continue throughout todays world, seeing all the traumatic experiences that families overcome to make a better life is crazy to see and how we have it fairly easy. As well as the traumatic experience that people faced during the pandemic weather if it was anxiety, depression, or mental health issues it is considered a traumatic event that occurred in their life.
