Yvette Rodriguez 2nd Presentation

Hi, my name is Yvette Rodriguez, this reflection is based on the 2nd presentation discussed in SPC2608. The second session covered a variety of informative issues with opposing points of view in great depth. As a leader throughout the assignment, I learned a ton of new information and had to develop a thorough introduction for each presentation.

Group 3 brought up the first topic, which was gun regulation. In the United States, this is a hotly debated issue, and there are many different points of view on how gun laws should be drafted. The number of school shootings in the USA has increased recently, and people are calling for gun regulation to stop such dreadful incidents. Group 3 discussed the relationship between gun laws and crime rates in various countries. Guns are used by citizens, which is why they are in their possession. Other countries have unique firearms restrictions that I personally would not have considered.

Having said that, I do think that people should be able to purchase firearms with the requisite background checks (mental health, criminal charges, etc.) in place at the time of purchase. Annual background checks should be performed on anyone who owns a firearm to verify that they are not in the ownership of someone who has been diagnosed with a condition after the purchase.

Group 2 then discussed immigration as its next topic. While there are many laws and regulations that must be taken into account when immigrating, immigration is still a highly significant issue in the United States. Due to the fact that most of our families have immigrated in order to provide us with the education and quality of life we currently enjoy and because of the numerous difficulties these people encounter, shelters have had to turn people away and send them back to the border. Being forced to pack up their belongings and leave their homes in order to begin a new and better life in the United States makes immigration a difficult subject.

In the image above, an officer is giving immigrants directions to the closest immigration shelter so they may get supplies like food and drink as well as medical attention if necessary. Due to a shortage of resources throughout the immigrant transit period, people arrived in the United States undernourished. It was great and well-discussed for group 2 to address such a sensitive subject while enlightening us with new information regarding immigration.

Group 1 finished up by discussing COVID-19. While COVID-19 was in fact still regarded as a "new" virus, various problems emerged. However, these problems were six feet apart, mask protection and virtual (zoom) school/work. To safeguard everyone against the unidentified virus, these modifications were necessary. Group One claimed that while making all these changes to impede the virus's transmission, "approximately 91% of students who were enrolled in an institution stopped and became "virtual" to maybe stop the spread." It is quite distressing to observe the social devastation and what is now accepted as usual. Social anxiety and a lack of interpersonal involvement have been brought on by this pandemic. Everyone was shocked by these changes, which led to an increase in violence, suicide, drug misuse, and mental health problems. Because individuals are reluctant to communicate with one another, it is difficult to learn about all the bad scenarios that this pandemic has produced. Fortunately, this information is adequately documented.

I have discovered a great deal of fresh information regarding themes that are frequently discussed as a result of this effort. Everyone who participated in this class project made it incredibly educational on concerns that still exist in today's world; it's crazy to see all the hardships families through to build better lives when we have it relatively simple. In addition to the terrible event that people went through during the pandemic, anxiety, depression, or mental health problems are also regarded as traumatic events that happened in their lives.
