Refection: Valerie Delgado

Hello my name is Valerie Delgado. When starting this class I was afraid it would be like every other speech class that I have taken and failed. This class is about leadership and to learn on how to use the proper communication throughout a speech. I have taken a role of being a teachers aid and assisting others with work or other resources to achieve the best possible grade within the course. Throughout this refection there are many things that have been spoken about within the presentations all through I would like to point out a couple of points that were briefly spoken about.

Reducing fear while presenting is one of the main factors that need to be done before walking onto the stage to present. Why you may ask? Well what does fear do to you when speaking, it affects the quality of our delivery. Being afraid or nervous causes us to either speak too quickly or too low focusing on the slides and not the audience to finish quicker. When speaking under these circumstances it creates a barrier between yourself and the audience causing them not to engage within your speech. There are many tips and ticks that could be practiced before speaking in front of your audience, these ticks still help mentors and public speakers till this day.

Interviewing people is a great source to gather others thoughts and recollection of the topic you might be speaking on. When interviewing people about the topic it is important you network with similar people that will be in your audience. Do not catch someone out of surprise, create a time that will benefit the both of you. Catching people by surprise will give you half fast answers instead of receiving that connection about the topic.

Visual resources are important but not as important of you giving the speech. Technology recourses such as PowerPoints and videos are add ons that make the audience engage with, but that could be done without these visual resources. When creating technological recourses, do not over use them throughout your speech, it could be overwhelming. Avoid unnecessary effects such as transitions or images. Create a back up plan if there is technology issues (mark the important points that are on the powerpoint or video and write them within your script).

I would like to note that everyones presentation was greatly explained. Everything from power-points to videos was well thought out and greatly formatted. Throughout the presentation times there was new information that I learned and some information that I knew but was thoroughly explained to get a better view and understanding of the point that was being given.
