                                             Reflection

Each presentation was extremely insightful. There were so many so many important topics to remember. Each group gave very helpful tips to becoming a successful speaker and presenter. I felt as if I learned something completely new every time a different person would present. I also learned many things from the different presenters in my group. Everyone gave important information and caught my eye of each topic. My favorite and most insightful topic from each of these presentations was from group 2. They showed a video on how to be a more confident speaker. The video talked about using good body language, prepare before you presentation meaning know you topic and practice, and have a hook in the beginning to help you audience want to listen to you. I am an extremely shy person so when it comes to public speaking, I am not a fan.

Group 1 did an excellent job. Everyone sounded very confident in what they were saying. Effective presenting is all around important. Making sure you audience is reacting well and understanding what you are saying for their age group.

Group 2 talked about Chapters 5-9. These chapters gave us a look at preparation, outlining, being a confident speaker, having good body language, and many more. Outlining is a great way to help anyone prep for a presentation or speech. Practicing beforehand what you want to talk about helps the speech go smoothly. It also helps with stuttering or trying to come up with what to say. What really stood out to me was the video on how to become a more confident public speaker. It taught me that having a positive attitude as well as letting loose and being more comfortable can help your speech tremendously. As Gabriela said, using facial expressions, eye contact, and wearing appropriate attire helps engage the audience. She also speaks about using you voice effectively. She lists some examples: using pauses, use rhythm, use pitch for expression, enunciate your words to speak more clearly, and fluency in your words.  Not only should you have thought out information but a gram marly correct slideshow. Not having correct grammar can impact your whole presentation. It shows that you did not care to check over before speaking. Maylan did a great job with telling me about sensory aids such as touch, smell, taste, hearing, and sight. Visual aid is the best known and most helpful to most people. This includes graphs, pictures, and videos. It helps the audience remember things better and makes them more interested. Although many people have stage fright there are many ways to overcome it. Group 2 did an excellent job on giving us some tips and tricks to doing so. I truly enjoyed their presentation and feel more confident to present in the future.

Group 3 discussed on relating, understanding, persuading the audience and most importantly, informative speaking. I believe that relating to the audience is the best way to help engage and make them interested. You gave do this by giving personal examples and opinions as well as creating a connection. By coming up with relatable topics, it helps your presentation. Yadira talks about different skills such as defining, describing, explaining, and demonstrating. All these steps lead to an informative presentation or speech. Another way to inform your audience is to persuade them. Everyone is constantly being persuaded. From social media, billboard signs, to the news, we are constantly being told to do something, buy something, or think something. Sometimes this could be a bad thing but that is why you should always be aware of what is good and what is bad. I learned that there are five principles to follow when persuasive speaking: to be careful who you trust meaning, “Don’t judge a book by it’s cover”, analyze different messages for reasonableness, having a positive message will make you story more persuasive, be respectful of you audience, and do not give false information to you audience. Vladislava gives us some strategies on persuasion: consistency, small changes, benefits, and need fulfillment. It could sometimes be difficult to understand and relate to the audience when you do not personally know them. That is why it is important to know and practice you topic. Creating a positive message helps engage the audience and it makes them feel welcome. I learned that using different tones helps do this because of how excited you are about the topic. In my part of the presentation, I discussed 5 ethical principles to informative speaking. They are the quality of you information, use caution when you use the words of other people, be careful to not mislead your audience, be sure the audience needs the information, and be sure the information is in the best interest of your audience. Before researching for my part, I did not know any of this information. Not only did I help myself for future speeches and presentations but I helped my classmates learn something new. These 5 principles will help anyone have an effective presentation.

Public speaking is not for everyone especially when most people have stage fright. By listening to the tips and tricks that each group taught me, I feel that I could be a more confident presenter in the future. I might not be a perfect, confident public speaker at the end of the semester, I will definitely improve my slideshows, words, and body language. I enjoyed everyones presentation and I learned so much about public speaking and will be using all the information for my future presentations.
