Sara Valladares Reflection #2

                                                                   Reflection #2

For this assignment we all did an informative speech which taught me so many more new things when it came to public speaking. I was in group three where we talked about gun laws around the world where I explained gun laws in Canada. While I did my research I learned Canada has much stricter rules than the United States. Canadians are allowed to own firearms providing they have a license and restricted or prohibited firearms like handguns must be registered. I also explained how Canadians must be over 18 and pass a firearms safety course to hold a license, which is renewed every five years. Licenses require training in gun safety and an extension background check. Guns have to be kept locked and unloaded, the only firearms allowed for wilderness protection are non-restricted rifles and shotguns. Canadian residents may be authorized to carry a handgun or restricted long gun for wilderness protection or for lawful occupational purposes if they are licensed to possess restricted firearms. Overall Canada work really hard to maintain a safe community. Over 1,500 types of assault style firearms have been banned. There has been improvements to expand gun controls laws background checks as well. My classmate Samantha informed us about gun laws in the United States. After her presentation it was obvious the US needs more control over firearms because of situations like school shootings that have taken place. It was so interesting to see how truly different gun laws are in different countries. Vladislava talked bout gun laws in Switzerland and we learned that it is actually number 11 on a peaceful country list. Like Canada they also have strict regulations and extensive background checks. I really enjoyed our group and how much we all learned with our presenations. My classmates and I got to compare each country's gun laws and got to learn so much.

Group 1 discussed the issues that Covid -19  had for students which was so interested to hear since we all have our own stories and can relate to a lot of it as well. Students had many advantages and disadvantages doing classes at home then attending classes in person. Like Gabriella Garcia mentioned we got to learn on our pace in our comfort of our homes. We had the option of going back to lessons but we also had disadvantages of not getting human interaction which affected us students. My senior year of high-school was all online and we missed out on all senior activities like prom which was heartbreaking. Some students also struggled with online classes because the lack of help from teachers. In. my experience it made it more difficult when it came to applying for college because my advisors were always busy helping many others. Abriana touched on the lifestyle changes people had due to Covid-19 for example many losing their jobs, many jobs being lost and students having to stay home. Many families struggled financially, my mom wasn't able to work for months while my dad had less work as well which of course caused a lot of stress and worry to my family.

Group 2 talk discussed the hardships civilians face daily while coming to the United States and starting their life's here. Kevin talked about obtaining a Visa to live in the U.S and then started the process if becoming a U.S citizen which is what many of my family members did. Having a connection to people who already live in the U.S is also very helpful. Laura talked how many people leaving their hometown to cross the border and leave their loved ones behind. This can be very dangerous and many don't end up coming alive expecially those coming with small children. Children end up separated from their parents as well which breaks my heart to think about. Many cross the border by swimming, walking and end up coming illegally which ends up with kids being in foster care and alone. Vera gives us many good reasons people decide to leave for healthcare, access to jobs, freedom of speech, to give their kids better education and etc.

Overall I learned so much during their presentations and everybody did such a great job. I loved working with my group because we all work well together and always do well on our parts. I learned so much doing an informative presentaion for the first time and would love to do more in the future.
